While investigating how live Anthrax samples were inadvertently shipped to various laboratories across the globe, the Department of Defense discovered a total of “9 Labs – 5 additional from our initial announcement, which includes one additional state and one additional foreign country (Australia),” Army Col. Steven Warren said in a statement to the press. “As a result, Deputy Secretary of Defense Bob Work has ordered a review of all DoD labs,” including procedures, processes and protocols. A total of 24 labs in 11 states and two foreign countries may have received the live virus, but are not believed to be a threat to the public or lab workers.
