Are You Allowed to Enjoy Christmas? ‘The View’ Hosts Disagree

TO CHILL OR NOT TO CHILL

Whoopi Goldberg and Ana Navarro had a heated back and forth about whether Americans should panic about Trump or take a break for the holidays.

Whoopi Goldberg told viewers they should take a beat in between hand wringing over everything Donald Trump says he’ll do when he takes office and Jan. 21. But her co-host Ana Navarro argued that now isn’t the time to kick back on Monday’s The View.

After discussing Trump’s latest grift—his Fight, Fight, Fight fragrances—and his use of First Lady Dr. Jill Biden’s photo to hawk it, Goldberg announced she doesn’t care about his selling “that stinky stuff,” and she’s determined to chill on Trump’s antics until after Christmas.

“He does this to keep you all in a panic,” Goldberg said on the show Monday. “He does it to make y’all do this [wringing her hands], and talk about him, and [say] ‘It’s so terrible.’ But all we have to do from now until January 21st is be with our families, be with our kids, do our jobs, make sure our checks don’t bounce, make sure we are taking care of ourselves and our families. Whatever he’s gonna do, he’s gonna do,” she continued.

Navarro told Goldberg that she disagrees with that laissez-faire stance about Trump and his various promises, including deporting millions, whether they’re in the country legally or not.

“I told you last week I disagree with you when you say that,” she told Goldberg, “because we have the luxury of saying that because we’re legal, we are successful, we are—if you’re an illegal immigrant in this country, you’re not going to be not in a panic.”

“If you are a woman working for the department of defense, you have a right to be in a panic,” Navarro continued, referencing the potential confirmation of female combat soldiers critic and Fox News host Pete Hegseth.

“Ana, you tell people to stay fraught and like this [waving her hands again],” Goldberg said as Navarro argued that she’s only, “telling people to prepare,.”

“Do you think they’re not prepared? They are prepared!” Goldberg shouted back. So—why not take a beat and step back from outrage until Trump at least takes office?

Well, Navarro argued, because “that means that they can’t be relaxing and enjoying Christmas,” but Goldberg countered that “it doesn’t mean that.” Navarro then reached for the Game of Thrones reference as she declared, “Winter is coming.”

“Winter is here. Winter has been with us,” Goldberg said, “My point is, we can lay down and do nothing for the next 15 days and then be freaking out for the next [however many years],” Goldberg explained.

Navarro was resolute: “My point to you is that we are in a privileged position” to even suggest that everyone should be able to enjoy the holidays right now.

Goldberg drew applause with her concluding point, that “we don’t know what we’re panicking for.”

“They’re throwing 50,000 things at you to make you do [panic],” she said. “I’m saying, don’t buy into that. Do what you have to do to take care of your family. And when we know what is happening and we know what we’re fighting, we’ll get out and fight.”
