An Arkansas mother was charged with battery and endangering the welfare of a child after she allegedly made her 7-year-old son, who woke up late and missed the school bus, walk almost eight miles to school. Amber Nicole Thompson, 33, told police that she sent the boy to bed without supper the night before after he got distracted while watching his 2-year-old brother, KAIT reported. According to a police affidavit, Thompson told the 7-year-old he would have to set an alarm and get himself to school because “she wasn’t going to.” The boy asked a farm shop owner for help while he trekked to school—and police were summoned. According to the court documents, Thompson told police that “it was not her problem” the boy was walking to school and that he was old enough to get ready by himself in the morning.
