Russian arms dealer Viktor Bout, often called “the Merchant of Death,” has been convicted by a federal jury in New York. Bout was charged with attempting to sell heavy weaponry to a terror group so it could attack U.S. forces aiding the Colombian government. He was arrested in 2008 in a U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration sting operation in Thailand, when federal agents posing as Colombian rebels attempted to buy missiles, mines, and assault rifles from the former Soviet Air Force officer. Bout faces life in prison.
