3. Deaf Woman Hears for the First Time
39-year-old Joanne Milne, from Gateshead, England, suffers from a rare genetic disorder called Usher Syndrome, which has rendered her deaf since birth. She received cochlear implants a month ago, but her doctor couldn’t turn them on until this week. Milne’s reaction was captured on cell phone video, and it’s ineffably heartwarming.
