A never-before-seen Beastie Boys video from 2011 leaked online this week. “Too Many Rappers,” featuring Nas, was part of the Beasties’ Hot Sauce Committee Part Two, an album that became their swan song after the 2012 death of Adam "MCA" Yauch.
Directed by frequent Wes Anderson collaborator Roman Coppola, “Too Many Rappers” is a low-tech affair with the Beasties and Nas rapping in supermarkets, public parks and grabbing food out of Arby’s dumpsters, combined with live performance footage. Neither the director nor the artists have yet commented on why the video was never released, but quality couldn’t be the reason; the video is as good as any the Beasties ever did, and fans can rejoice in seeing them in action one last time.
