What Musk is doing is indeed an act of mass destruction. But the attacks are targeted, and the aim is no total annihilation—rather, it’s a government that works in his personal service.

Giving women an equal shot in a radically screwed-up system is not the ultimate goal of the feminist movement. But keeping women out of the only system we have—or punishing them if they succeed in that system—isn’t feminism either.

The party needs to present itself as the counter to the melodrama of MAGA. But it also needs prominent voices who will meet Trumpian grandstanding with appropriate rage and a bit of their own stagecraft.

It’s all too telling that Trump, surrounded by incompetents and boot-lickers, still chooses so few women to listen to, or elevate to power—it’s not like the men in his inner circle set the bar particularly high.

For today’s tech bros’ plus-ones, the gameplan is to invest in the attention economy—as well as a few noble causes, of course.

Blake Lively is not perfect—no one is. She surely has her moments of being difficult, vain, or short-tempered. But while male actors get to be complex, for female actors, it’s not nearly as straightforward.
