Michael Avenatti, lawyer to adult-film star Stormy Daniels and aspiring 2020 Democratic presidential candidate, told Time he thinks the next Democratic nominee “better be a white male.” “When you have a white male making the arguments, they carry more weight,” he told the magazine. “Should they carry more weight? Absolutely not. But do they? Yes.” He added that being a white male has helped him in representing Daniels in her lawsuits against President Trump and working on behalf of immigrant mothers. After the Time story was published, Avenatti denied making the comments in an interview with The Daily Caller on Thursday. “I never said that, that’s complete bullshit. That’s my comment, complete bullshit,” he said. When the reporter read back the comments to him, he reportedly reiterated that the comments Time printed were “not what [he] said.”
