Banksy’s shredding frame made international headlines when it ripped up one of his paintings that had just sold at auction for over $1 million—but the artist has revealed the frame didn’t work as he’d hoped. In a new video showing the behind-the-scenes of the stunt, a caption says “In rehearsals it worked every time...” before showing a painting being completely shredded. At the auction house, the painting was only partially shredded, leaving the balloon in the painting intact. The new video also shows the artist constructing the mechanism inside the frame and pushing a button to activate the destruction at Sotheby’s in London this month. On Instagram, the artist wrote: “Some people think it didn’t really shred. It did. Some people think the auction house were in on it, they weren’t.”
