Former First Lady Barbara Bush died on Tuesday evening, a family spokesman said. She was 92. The former first lady was in failing health and had opted against seeking additional medical treatment to instead focus on “comfort care,” a spokesman had said on Sunday. She was the second first lady in U.S. history who also was the mother of a former president, her son George W. Bush, the 43rd president. She married her husband, former President George H.W. Bush, in 1945. The former president’s chief of staff, Jean Becker, said Bush “of course is broken-hearted to lose his beloved Barbara, his wife of 73 years” and “held her hand all day today and was at her side when she left this good earth.”
