BCS commissioners and Notre Dame athletic director Jack Swarbick endorsed a four-team playoff configuration for college football that would start in the fall of 2014. The BCS system, which currently deems one game its national-title bout, has long been criticized for crowing an unclear national champion or co-champions. But the commissioners said Wednesday that they back the seeded playoff model, which must be approved by a separate presidential oversight committee that is also part of the BCS, which meets next week in Washington, D.C. If the move goes through, it would replace the BCS, which began in 1998. The four teams would reportedly be picked by a committee under criteria including conference champions and strength of schedule, where a national title game would be played in the highest bidding city.
