Paramount Pictures’ $100 million remake of Ben-Hur crashed and burned at American box offices this weekend, becoming another casualty in a rough summer for Hollywood. The film’s debut brought in only $11.4 million, according to studio estimates released Sunday, making it one of the season’s most costly failures. Directed by Timur Bekmambetov and starring Jack Huston (as the titular character), Toby Kebbell, and Nazanin Boniadi, the movie earned a damning 28 percent rating on film-review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes.
