Just a day before the Iowa caucuses, Bernie Sanders’s campaign announced it had raised $20 million in January. The Vermont senator’s staffers said more than 770,000 individual contributions were received over the course of the past month, pushing the total number of donations past the 3.2 million mark. Sanders’s camp said almost none of its donors had hit the $2,700 cap on what they were allowed to donate for the primary elections, which would allow these donors to keep fundraising for him in the months ahead. Sanders’s rival Hillary Clinton has not released January fundraising totals, but the super PAC supporting the Democratic frontrunner, Priorities USA Action, also announced Sunday it had received a $6 million donation from billionaire George Soros in December.
