President Joe Biden was left speechless when he was told that families of soldiers killed in Afghanistan felt he’d spoken too much about the death of his own son at the dignified transfer of remains of their lost loved ones, according to a book. Former White House press secretary Jen Psaki writes about Biden’s shocked reaction to the news in Say More, her forthcoming memoir, according to The Guardian. In the book, she reportedly describes warning him on a phone call about a New York Times story quoting several families of U.S. service members killed in Kabul in 2021 who had been critical of his frequent references to his son Beau—who died of brain cancer in 2015—at a ceremony for the return of the troops’ bodies at Dover Air Force Base. “I paused for the president to respond,” Psaki writes. “The silence that followed was a bit too long. I worried for a moment that our connection had been lost. ‘Sir, are you still there?’ I asked.”
