Is this a reaction to losing to Ben Affleck? Zero Dark Thirty director Kathryn Bigelow wrote an editorial in the Los Angeles Times on Wednesday denouncing the controversial depiction of torture in the film. Calling herself a “lifelong pacifist,” Bigelow writes that she supports all protests against any use of torture. “Those of us who work in the arts know that depiction is not endorsement,” Bigelow writes. Calling it “illogical” to ignore the CIA’s alleged use of torture, Bigelow acknowledges that Osama bin Laden was found not by “superheroes zooming in from the sky,” but rather “ordinary Americans who fought bravely and sometimes crossed moral lines.”
