The Weekly Standard founder and editor Bill Kristol will step down from his role after 21 years, he announced Monday evening. He will be taking on a smaller role as editor-at-large while senior writer Stephen F. Hayes and editor Richard Starr take over the publication’s top editor job. Kristol endured a difficult election, during which he adamantly opposed Donald Trump—repeatedly and wrongly predicting his demise throughout the primary and general election seasons—and backed the short-lived non-campaign of conservative blogger David French.
