Comedian Bill Maher applauded President Donald Trump for what he said was a fitting response to a “stupid” question about visiting the crash site of the mid-air collision that killed 67 people this week in Washington, D.C.

Taking press questions in the Oval Office on Wednesday, Trump was asked if he intends to see the crash site in the Potomac River himself. To which Trump responded, “You tell me, what’s the site? The water? You want me to go swimming?”

On Friday’s broadcast of Real Time With Bill Maher, Maher and his guest, veteran columnist Peggy Noonan, seemed in agreement that the tone of the president’s response was appropriate.

As Noonan told the HBO host, “I think the rise of Donald Trump, who also was a reflection of changes, I think within us, sort of a desire for a politics that’s maybe a little rougher and more direct…”

“A little?!?” Maher interjected to peals of laughter from the audience.

“Yeah I get it, you know?” said Maher. “I mean, they asked him a question today, and I’m sure if you’re the type of person who just always hates the one team and loves what the other one does… they asked him a question, will you visit the crash site?”

Maher argued that “every other politician” would say “of course, it was a tragedy.”

He added, “And he went, ‘It’s the water. What do you want me to do, swim there?’ And I was like, exactly, f--k right! You’re exactly right! It’s a stupid question, and you got just the answer you deserved.”
