Casino Magnate Sheldon Adelson Receiving Treatment for Cancer

Casino magnate and Republican megadonor Sheldon Adelson is being treated for cancer. “Mr. Adelson is still dealing with certain side effects from medication he is taking for the treatment of non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma,” a spokesman for Adelson’s company, Las Vegas Sands Corp., was quoted as telling the Associated Press late Thursday. The announcement came after a lawyer for the 85-year-old said earlier this week that the “dire nature” of his client’s illness would prevent him from sitting for an upcoming deposition as part of a long-running court case brought by a Hong Kong businessman. The attorney also said Adelson hadn’t been in his company’s office since the third week of December. Judge Rob Bare said he would grant Adelson a medical exemption if his doctor submitted a sworn testimony.
