Photographer Gray Malin got the idea to shoot beaches from above on a weekend getaway in April 2011. Malin has since photographed beaches and beachgoers worldwide. The collection can be found in his book Beaches.

When Malin traveled to South America, he captured the beach life of Rio De Janiero. In his book, he includes some insider tips like where to stay, what to eat, and what cannot be missed from each of the places he visited. For Rio De Janeiro, Malin suggests the Niterói Contemporary Art Museum if you're feelng cultural and Aprazível for a fun night out.

While in a helicopter hovering above Miami, Malin first discovered the beauty of beach umbrellas from above.

In Saint-Tropez, Malin suggests staying at the Château de la Messardière, lounging at the Plage de Pampelonne, eating at La Tarte Tropézienne, and ending the day at Le Club 55.

While flying above Italy, Malin's mind was overstimulated by the endless colors of umbrellas that lined the sand. He writes, "I was in heaven."

In Rio de Janeiro, Malin noticed something different about the beachgoers, here, locals spent sunrise to sunset laying under the sun.
One of the best things to do in Sydney, Malin writes, is the coastal walk from Coogee Beach to Bondi Beach (pictured here).

During his time in Santa Monica, Malin enjoyed renting a bike and riding it along the Santa Monica boardwalk all the way to Manhattan Beach.
