The BBC reported that one of its correspondents saw filled ballot boxes at a polling station before it even opened, and one man said members of his extended family found that their votes had already been cast when they arrived. Opposition leaders were calling the early results—which indicated a landslide—“farcical” and demanding a new vote, AFP reported. Meanwhile, authorities said at least 17 people had been killed in clashes between the ruling party and the opposition.
