Sen. Bob Corker (R-TN) on Wednesday cheered the victory of Democrat Doug Jones over Republican Roy Moore in the Alabama U.S. Senate race. “I know we’re supposed to cheer for our side of the aisle, if you will,” Corker said. “But I’m really, really happy with what happened for all of us in our nation, for people serving in the Senate, to not have to deal with what we were likely going to have to deal with should the outcome have been the other way.” Sen. Jeff Flake (R-AZ), who donated $100 to Jones’ campaign, tweeted on Tuesday night: “Decency wins.” Corker, Flake, and their fellow Republican senators had called on Moore to back away from the race after multiple women came forward alleging that he sexually pursued them when they were teenagers. But Moore remained defiant and instead used the opposition from Republicans in Washington to drive home his anti-establishment message. In the end, he lost to Jones by nearly 2 percentage points in the deep-red state.
