Starting with NBC’s coverage of next year’s Winter Games in Pyeongchang, South Korea, Bob Costas will no longer be the network’s primetime Olympic anchor after 24 years on the job. Costas announced Thursday his departure from the high-profile role, and will be succeeded by Mike Tirico, who joined NBC last spring. “It just felt to me like the right time and it’s felt like the right time for a while,” the 64-year-old sports-broadcasting veteran said. “This was a good time to step away, while I could still do it.” Tirico previously worked at ESPN for 25 years, and worked as a daytime host for NBC’s coverage of the Summer Olympics in Rio de Janiero last year.
