Report: Boeing 737 Max Probe Focusing on Disclosures to Safety Regulators

Federal investigators conducting a probe into the certification of Boeing’s 737 Max aircraft in the wake of two fatal crashes are reportedly focusing on the company’s disclosures to air-safety regulators. Sources cited by The Wall Street Journal late Friday said the criminal investigation involves FBI agents and the Transportation Department’s inspector general’s office, both of which are working with federal prosecutors to determine whether anything went wrong in the certification process for the aircraft. The investigation was reportedly opened last year after the Lion Air crash in Indonesia left 189 people dead. Months later, another 157 people were killed when a Boeing 737 Max operated by Ethiopian Airlines crashed. Prosecutors are now reportedly looking into whether Boeing provided air-safety regulators with inaccurate or misleading information about the aircraft.
