Boeing on Wednesday was hit with the WannaCry computer virus. According to The Seattle Times, top Boeing engineer Mike VanderWel sent out a company memo saying that the virus was “metastasizing rapidly out of North Charleston.” VanderWel said he feared that key infrastructure needed for the production of its 777 aircraft was inoperable. The United States blamed North Korea for the WannaCry ransomeware attack that took place in May 2017. In a statement, Boeing said some of the descriptions of the cyberattack were “overstated and inaccurate,” adding: “Our cybersecurity operations center detected a limited intrusion of malware that affected a small number of systems. Remediations were applied and this is not a production or delivery issue.”
