Some proud parents post pictures to social media from the delivery room, so excited are they to tell the world right away about their new arrival.
However, Oscar-nominated actor Bradley Cooper and his girlfriend of two years, model Irina Shayk, have proved themselves the very picture of discretionâhaving managed to keep it secret for almost two weeks that she has given birth to their first child.
In an admirable social-media subterfuge strategy, Shayk appears to have deliberately thrown the press off the scent by not only posting nothing about the baby in recent days, but by focusing her posts on workaday subjects such as recent editorial work.
She has, for example, posted a series of images taken by photographer Peter Lindbergh for the cover of Dutch Vogue over the past few days, together with birthday greetings to her sister.
However, People reports this morning that the baby was born two weeks ago, citing a source, but did not say whether the new nipper was a boy or a girl.
The couple have notably sought to stay out of the limelight during the pregnancy, refusing to even officially confirm the pregnancy.
However, the cat was let out of the bag when Shayk walked in a Victoriaâs Secret show in November last year.
She partially concealed her tummy in a beaded and fringed red top, but many were convinced she was a mum-to-be.
Shayk, who started dating Silver Linings Playbook star Cooper in the spring of 2015, following her split from Cristiano Ronaldo, and the end of Cooper's relationship with Suki Waterhouse, came the closest to giving a hint that she was pregnant in an interview with Britainâs Hello! Magazine after the Victoriaâs Secret show in which she said: âI think family is the reason why we are here. I love my job and itâs very important to me; I really enjoy what Iâm doing, but itâs not the most important thing in my lifeâfamily is, friends, people who I love.
âMy father was married to my mother for more than 20 years and, yes, definitely one day I want to have a family because that is the most important thing on this earth.
âMy sister had her baby when she was 22 and that was the perfect time, I will be 31 in January, so maybe soon it will be my perfect time.â
In February, Shaykâs baby bump was clearly visible during a trip to Disneyland, where she sported Minnie Mouse-ears.
The model also sparked engagement rumors in December, when she was spotted wearing an emerald ring during a Los Angeles shopping trip, but, again, the couple have made no public comment.
A source told People in December that Cooper seemed âmore protectiveâ of his girlfriend in her pregnancy.
âHe has been spotted dropping her off at the airport with kisses as she is about to take off for another job,â the source said. âThey are just a very sweet couple.â
