After Politico’s bombshell revelation that two women charged Herman Cain with sexual harrassment in the 1990s, the question on everyone’s mind: Can he survive? Slate’s David Weigel thinks the Cain campaign’s first move—comparing the story to similar allegations against Supreme Court justice Clarence Thomas—was the right one. But it won’t hold the river back for long. “This isn't a one-day story,” Weigel writes. “Politico protected the names of the sources while leaving a Hansel and Gretel trail for others to follow.” What’s even worse for Cain is that there’s an entire field of GOP contenders ready and waiting to capitalize on the frontrunner’s fall.
