‘Captain Marvel’ Has Year’s Best Opening Weekend at the Box Office

Captain Marvel surpassed expectations this weekend and easily clinched the best opening weekend of any movie in the U.S. this year. The latest Marvel feature, led by Brie Larson, brought the domestic box office a boost during a typically low sales time of year, with a whopping $153 million in ticket sales since its Friday premiere. The movie's opening weekend was the seventh best of any in the 21-film Marvel Cinematic Universe franchise. The film—the first in the franchise with a female protagonist—also raked in an estimated $455 million globally.
