Gary Carter, a Hall of Fame catcher, died Thursday at the age of 57. Nicknamed “Kid,” Carter won many accolades throughout his two-decade career, picking up 11 All Star nods and three Gold Gloves. He is perhaps best known for the single he hit at the bottom of the 10th inning during the sixth game of the 1986 World Series. That at-bat helped the Mets mount an improbable comeback against the Boston Red Sox and eventually take the title. Carter, who was diagnosed with a malignant brain tumor last May, also played for Montreal, San Francisco, and Los Angeles.
