Cate Blanchett is getting candid about her pay, or lack thereof, on The Lord of the Rings films. Variety reports that Blanchett made the money omission on a Wednesday episode of Andy Cohen’s Watch What Happens Live. The topic came up when Cohen asked the Oscar winner to reveal which movie provided her biggest payday. He speculated LOTR. “Are you kidding me?” Blanchett asked Cohen when he asked about her salary. “No, no one got paid anything to do that movie.” She also admitted she didn’t even get a piece of the backend when Cohen inquired. “No! That was way before any of that. No, nothing. I wanted to work with the guy who made Braindead. I basically got free sandwiches, and I got to keep my [elf] ears,” Blanchett quipped. The actress played Galadriel, a powerful elf, in the trilogy of films. The film series would go on to gross $2.9 billion, so needless to say, Blanchett was grossly underpaid.
