From James Brown frizzy ‘do to Snooki’s disheveled look, the worst of celebrity slammer hair. AP Photo (4) Serial Killer Charles Manson awaits his twelfth parole hearing, and even at 77, the intense stare and swastika tattoo that adorns his forehead are equally as chilling. However one thing has changed–the state of his hair. The last photos released of the “Helter Skelter” killer three years ago showed a shaved head and short, trimmed beard. But his most recent mug shot reveals an unkempt gray beard and flowing silver locks. What other public figures have had a bad hair day behind bars? Anonymous / AP Photo Nick Nolte's haggard face was immortalized in perhaps the most notorious mug shot of all time upon his arrest for suspicion of driving under the influence after he was pulled over for swerving across a Southern California freeway in 2002. “We were surprised by the attention the case received,” said Leland Tang, the officer who released the infamous photograph. "It’s not like Nolte had a movie hitting theaters immediately.” According to Tang, tourists had snapped pictures of Nolte’s arrest and quickly passed them to the press, forcing police to release the mug shot sooner than they would have liked. His arrest resulted in a $500 fine, three years probation, and an infamously awful bad hair day. Anonymous / AP Photo The reason behind beauty queen Kumari Fulbright’s arrest seemed like a plot line out of a bad horror movie. In 2007, the Arizona law student, who was crowned Miss Pima County in 2005 and Miss Desert Sun in 2006, was arrested for kidnapping and torturing her ex boyfriend. Not only did she rob him, but according to reports, she bit him, slashed him with a knife, and threatened to kill him while pointing a gun in his direction. But once her mug shot surfaced to the public, attention turned to the beauty queen’s transformation from princess to ugly duckling. Anonymous / AP Photo Looking like a confused, disheveled duckling, actor Rip Torn was arrested in early 2010 for failure to comb his hair, er, breaking into a bank intoxicated, while toting a loaded revolver. The then 78-year-old actor was charged with carrying a pistol without a permit, carrying a firearm while intoxicated, first-degree burglary, first-degree criminal trespass, and third-degree criminal mischief. Anonymous / AP Photo On and off the cameras of her reality show Jersey Shore, Snooki is almost always donning a full face of makeup and immaculately kempt locks. But when the star was arrested in 2010 for disorderly conduct, she couldn’t hide her bed-head hair and melting mascara. That same night, her Jersey costar Jenni “JWoww” Farley tweeted, ”Going to bail @Sn00ki out of jail … The things I do for this girl I swear.” Handout / Getty Images The late Godfather of Soul had several run-ins with authorities, few as well-documented as the January 2004 charges of domestic violence against fourth wife Tomi Rae that yielded this Nolte-esque mug shot. “I tried to give police a comb for him,” Rae told a local paper. “I asked them not to take the Godfather out looking like that!” Brown got away without jail time, and paid $1,087 for his mistake. Aiken County Sheriff's Office / Getty Images Maybe it isn’t fair to categorize Funk pioneer George Clinton as someone with bad hair in jail, but rather, bad hair in general. In 2003, Clinton was arrested for possession after allegedly telling officers he had cocaine in his pocket. The P-Funk architect was bonded out of jail after a short stay in custody and flaunted his pastel colored braids and dreadlocks for an oh-so memorable mug shot. Leon County Jail / AP Photo Robert James Ritchie aka Kid Rock lent his rock n’ roll tendencies to get himself arrested in 2007 for misdemeanor battery. The “All Summer Long” singer and other members of his entourage beat up a man at a Waffle House, after the man started a conversation with a woman at their table. The singer was released after posting $1,000 bond, and taking a particularly greasy looking mug shot. Anonymous / AP Photo Aside from her tragically young death, Amy Winehouse was known for her soulful croon and her trademark beehive up ‘do. The “Rehab” singer was arrested in 2007 for possession of marijuana. In 2008 she was arrested on suspicion of possessing drugs after a video of her apparently smoking crack cocaine was passed to the police. And in 2009 she was charged with assault following a claim by a woman that Winehouse hit her in the eye at a charity ball. Her 2008 arrest gained her this infamous mug shot, showing dramatically smudged eyeliner and a frenzy of black curls. Whenever someone says the name Pee Wee Herman, a pixie loses its wings. Perhaps a bit extreme, but we hate writing about the children’s TV host just as much as you dislike reading about him. Paul Reubens, or “ Pee Wee,” was arrested in 1991 for indecent exposure in an adult theatre, exploding his once successful career into a million little pieces. Known for his slicked back, retro ‘do, a mug shot showcasing shoulder-length hair, complete with mustache and beard, was a far cry from the seemingly innocent character on Pee Wee’s Playhouse. AP Photo Just last week, That 70s Show actress Lisa Robin Kelly was arrested on suspicion of spousal abuse, and is out on $50,000 bail. But what seems to worry Kelly most is not her arrest, but her less than flattering mug shot. "My poor mother has to look at that picture of me," she told ABC News. "That doesn't look like me. That's not me." She said she was not using or abusing any substances at the time the picture was taken. Handout / Getty Images While not unruly by today’s standards, “Fly Me To the Moon” singer Frank Sinatra’s mug shot revealed even a member of the Rat Pack can have a bad hair day. In 1938, a 23-year-old Sinatra was arrested for seduction and adultery. This is not a joke. According to FBI reports, “under the promise of marriage,” Sinatra had sexual relations with “a single female of good repute.” But the charges were later dismissed when it was determined that the woman in question was married. Phew.
