Celebrity Surgeon ‘Dr. Bumbum’ Caught After Four Days on the Run

Dr. Bumbum—one of Brazil’s foremost buttock-enhancement surgeons—has been caught after he went into hiding for four days following the death of a patient. The plastic surgeon, real name Denis Furtado, is a regular fixture on Brazilian television and has several hundred thousand Instagram followers. His patient Lilian Calixto died following injections he gave her to enlarge her buttocks; the surgeon now faces murder charges. His mother was also arrested, accused of being an accomplice. Police say Furtado was detained in Rio de Janeiro after they received an anonymous tip. In a video posted on social media after his arrest Thursday, Furtado said Calixto’s death had been a “fatal accident” and claimed he had performed 9,000 such procedures, saying they were legal in Brazil.
