Chad Griffin to Step Down as Human Rights Campaign President

Human Rights Campaign President Chad Griffin is stepping down from his position after a seven-year tenure, the LGBTQ civil-rights organization announced Thursday. During Griffin’s time as president, the HRC accomplished landmark victories for the cause, including introducing the Equality Act, which would explicit federal civil-rights protections for LGBTQ people, and leading efforts to win marriage equality. The organization has also championed trans issues and hired trans staffers under his leadership. Most recently, HRC launched a successful grassroots campaign ahead of the 2018 midterms. “Now is the time to fight harder and dig deeper,” Griffin said in a statement. “Because there are still more trails to be blazed. There is still more history to be made and more battles to be won. The LGBTQ community’s brightest days and our grandest victories are still ahead of us.” Griffin is expected to stay at the HRC until it hires a new president.
