Former New York Knicks star Charles Oakley is suing Madison Square Garden and team owner James Dolan, the company’s executive chairman, for libel, slander, and other actions after a highly publicized dispute at the arena in February. The lawsuit also claims assault, battery, and violations of the Americans With Disabilities Act. Oakley was arrested after an incident with Garden security and was charged with two misdemeanor counts of assault, one misdemeanor count of aggravated harassment, one misdemeanor count of trespassing, and two counts of harassment. Cameras show Oakley hitting Garden security members when they attempted to physically remove him from his seat. Dolan later suggested Oakley had an alcohol problem and anger-management issues. Oakley has denied the accusations and said he was targeted by security.
