BRAT BUSINESS

Charli XCX fans are speculating that the pop star might be working on something for Kamala Harris’ presidential election campaign after their previous social media interaction was a hit. The “Von dutch” singer posted a photo on X of herself in the studio on Thursday. “Recording… something xx,” the British pop star captioned the picture in which she can be seen wearing headphones and standing behind a microphone. “Voiceover for Kamala ad,” one user speculated in the replies. “Song for Kamala's campaign?!?!” chimed in another. Their theories might not be so farfetched as Kamala herself has leaned into XCX’s “brat” aesthetic. After Joe Biden stepped down and Harris took his place, XCX posted to X, “kamala IS brat.” The singer’s enthusiasm inspired the Harris campaign to rebrand their social media headers to match the signature neon green look of XCX’s Brat album. For context, a brat, according to the singer, is a “very honest” and sometimes messy party girl. The album has spawned thousands of Gen-Z memes and has led to many people declaring that they’re having a “brat summer.”
