The Republican National Committee has officially selected Charlotte, North Carolina, as the location of its 2020 convention, Politico reports. The final contenders were Las Vegas and Charlotte, with the latter ultimately winning out due to the “large number of hotel rooms, major airport and demonstrated fundraising ability” in the city. The committee has yet to set a date. “We look forward to seeing the Queen City take center stage as the Republican Party re-nominates President Donald Trump and Vice President Mike Pence to continue fighting for the American people,” RNC chairwoman Ronna McDaniel said in a statement. Charlotte’s city council only narrowly voted to host the convention due to concerns over protesters in the “largely Democratic” city. The Democratic National Convention is slated to take place in mid-July, and is considering cities like Houston, Miami Beach, or Milwaukee.
