Take note, Politifact: President Obama has broken a campaign promise. Like presidents before him, President Obama refused to say “genocide” while commemorating Armenian Remembrance Day on Saturday. Skirting around the g-word, Obama said "On this solemn day of remembrance, we pause to recall that 95 years ago one of the worst atrocities of the 20th century began. In that dark moment of history, 1.5 million Armenians were massacred or marched to their death in the final days of the Ottoman Empire.” American presidents have always resisted saying “genocide” out of fear of offending Turkey; however, Obama had promised in his presidential campaign that he would call the Armenian killing “genocide.”
