Is ESP Real After All?

SCIENCE

A new study has psychologists up in arms.

Turns out you might not be paranoid if you think people are reading your mind. A new study in The Journal of Personality and Social Psychology, a respected publication, says extrasensory perception, or ESP, is more real than previously thought. The report, of course, has already caused a shakeup in the science community, with statisticians attacking the journal for its methodology. The study, critics say, weighs factors that are anomalies with similar weight to scientific fact. In fact, the ESP paper has become a catalyst for a renewed debate: Psychologists should be treating ESP studies the way genetics studies are treated, some say, stamping out the “false positives” that make it look like, well, ESP is real.
