Fallen baseball great Barry Bonds was found guilty Wednesday of obstruction of justice for impeding an investigation into performance-enhancing drug distribution, while a judge declared a mistrial on three remaining counts. After a government prosecution that lasted nearly seven years, Bonds had been charged with four federal felony counts for denying under oath in 2003 that he had knowingly used steroids or other illegal performance-enhancing drugs despite having immunity for drug use in that case. Bonds faces up to 10 years in prison, but federal sentencing guidelines recommend 15 to 21 months for an obstruction of justice conviction and many legal experts say Bonds will most likely be sentenced to home confinement.
