On the heels of a new deal between General Motors and the United Auto Workers, Ford has signed an agreement with the union to add 12,000 jobs and invest $6.2 billion in U.S. plants. The company will sink a total of $16 billion into its U.S. operations by 2015. Most of the new jobs will pay entry-level wages, and will be filled by the end of 2012. New employees will get a $5,000 signing bonus. “We really believe that it’s fair to our employees and recognizes the contribution that they’ve made to the success of Ford Motor Co.,” a Ford executive said. The union will now turn to making a deal with Chrysler.
