Texas Gov. Rick Perry may be lagging in the polls, but his fundraising efforts are going well. His campaign announced that it has raised more than $17 million since he declared his candidacy in August. Almost half the money came from Texas donors. Mitt Romney, the current frontrunner in the GOP primary, raised $18 million in the first three-month fundraising period but is expected to have raised less during the fundraising quarter that ended Sept. 30—between $11 million and $13 million. Still, the Romney campaign has a significant head start on Perry’s fundraising efforts.
