The East Coast was hit with a rare October snowstorm on Saturday, with up to 12 inches of snow expected in some areas. A winter storm warning was in effect for the Northest from Virginia to Boston until 2 a.m. Sunday. By 2 p.m. Saturday, New York City's Central Park was already hit with a record 1.3 inches, and Pennsylvania's Poconos region is expected to receive between eight and 12 inches. An estimated 1.1 million people were without power in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Connecticut, and Maryland, and more than 1,000 flights were delayed. But there was good news for skiers: two Vermont ski resorts are planning to start the season early.
