One of the most notorious criminals in 20th-century Britain has passed away. Ronnie Biggs, who got his nickname from a 1963 train heist in which he and 14 others stole roughly 2.5 million pounds in used bank notes. It became known as the “crime of the century,” and led to Biggs as the subject of books, films, and TV shows. He even recorded a single with the Sex Pistols. Although arrested and sent to prison, Biggs escaped after 15 months and set off a multi-year, global manhunt involving extensive plastic surgery, and far-flung palces like Australia and Brazil.
