The owner of the Park51 building in lower Manhattan, dubbed the ground zero mosque, has submitted an application for the structure to be razed. The building, which opened as a mosque and cultural center in September 2011, was the site of an immense controversy because of its proximity to the site of the 9/11 World Trade Center attack. The controversy sucked in everybody from Mayor Michael Bloomberg to Michele Bachmann and President Obama. "Plans for the site will be announced at a later date,” a spokesman said.
