More than 70 activists have been arrested at a pro-democracy rally outside government headquarters in Hong Kong, where police are now blocking more protesters from joining. Protesters inside the restricted zone, however, announced that they would stay overnight. 34 people have been treated for injuries in the protests, 29 of whom have been discharged, according to Hong Kong authorities. Beijing ruled out free elections for Hong Kong in August. Protesters demand the release of detained student activists, including 17-year-old leader Joshua Wong, and an audience with Hong Kong’s leader, Chief Executive C.Y. Leung. University students and some high school students have boycotted classes for a week. Teachers have been warned that if they are convicted “as a result of participating in unlawful activities, they will have to bear their legal responsibilities as well as professional- and career-related consequences.”
