Rep. Aaron Schock will resign from Congress following weeks of scandalous stories about how the Illinois Republican and his office spent taxpayers’ money on everything from a Downton Abbey-themed office renovation to mileage reimbursements. Politico reports that Schock expensed 170,000 miles on his personal vehicle but then sold it with only 80,000 miles on it. That means Schock was billing taxpayers for 90,000 miles that were never driven. “Today, I am announcing my resignation as a member of the United States House of Representatives, effective March 31,” Schock said in a statement. “The constant questions over the last six weeks have proven a great distration that has made it too difficult for me to serve the people of the 18th District with the high standards that they deserve and which I have set for myself.”
