American forces returned antiquities taken during a raid on ISIS to Iraq on Wednesday. The items, which included bracelets and stamps, were taken from a raid on an Islamic State group commander known as Abu Sayyaf in May. “Today’s effort represents one success in the efforts to return Iraq’s historic patrimony, but the campaign to return all of Iraq’s treasures continues,” said Ambassador Stuart Jones. According to U.S. officials, the raid provided proof that antiquities are being used to fund the war in Syria. The Daily Beast previously reported that Abu Sayyaf’s wife, Umm Sayyaf, is considered by many to be one of the most valuable sources of information on the inner workings of the terrorist group.
