Following this week’s vote that rejected nondiscrimination protections for gender identity and sexual orientation in Houston, Fusion’s Jorge Ramos asked Republican presidential candidate Ben Carson if he believes transgender people should be able to use any public restrooms they choose.
“How about we have a transgender bathroom?” Carson suggested, prompting Ramos to ask if that was actually a sincere proposal.
“Sure, absolutely,” the candidate replied. “It is not fair for them to make everybody else uncomfortable. It’s one of the things that I don’t particularly like about the [LGBT] movement. I think everybody has equal rights, but I’m not sure that anybody should have extra rights.”

In a country founded on “live and let live,” Carson said he believes LGBT Americans “can do anything they want.” Except, he admitted, get married or use the bathroom in which they feel most comfortable.
