Panamanian authorities raided the offices of the law firm at the heart of the “Panama Papers” document leak. Police and officials from an organized-crime unit conducted the operation at Mossack Fonseca’s office “without incident or interference,” prosecutors said. A drop of 11.5 million documents from Mossack Fonseca revealed how the company helped wealthy individuals use offshore firms to secretly dodge taxes. The firm has denied any wrongdoing, and claims it was hacked. The attorney general’s office said the goal of the operation was “to obtain documentation linked to the information published in news articles that establish the use of the firm in illicit activities,” according to a statement. Officials plan to raid subsidiaries of the firm as well.
