National Review writer and constitutional lawyer David French said Tuesday morning that Donald Trump’s team tried to intimidate him out of running as a potential “independent” presidential candidate selected by professional pundit Bill Kristol. On Morning Joe, French said that his wife’s family got a call from someone allegedly with Trump’s campaign who was “instructed to call and deliver a message that the race would be very difficult for me.” French said it was “one of the more ham-handed attempts at intimidation.” He noted, however, that he’d only learned of the incident after he decided not to toss his hat into the ring.
