While opening up for Donald Trump at a Wednesday rally in Ocala, Florida, former NYC Mayor Rudy Giuliani opened up a new line of attack against Hillary Clinton, suggesting she does not truly understand the severity of terrorism because she was not present at Ground Zero on 9/11. “Yes, you helped to get benefits for the people that were injured that day,” he said of Clinton’s legislative efforts following the attacks, “but I heard her say one day she was there that day. I was there that day, I don’t remember seeing Hillary Clinton there.”
Clinton was in Washington, D.C., on the day of the attacks, as she was a U.S. Senator for the state of New York. She returned to her home state the following morning, however, and was photographed touring Ground Zero with Giuliani and New York Gov. George Pataki. Several other photographs from the week following the attacks show Clinton as a consistent presence at the site where nearly 3,000 people perished.
